GPT-5: OpenAI Promises Better Writing, Faster Research

OpenAI has introduced GPT-5, its most advanced large language model (LLM). With the new update, OpenAI promises faster answers, greater accuracy, and better performance in everything from content creation to coding.

GPT-5 is expected to bring more accuracy, customisation, and speed to AI writing and research, which should be good news for search marketers and content creators. We will have to see whether the new model truly raises the bar for generative AI and SEO use cases and provides stronger writing, faster research, and more control over tone and structure.

“GPT‑5 is our most capable writing collaborator yet, able to help you steer and translate rough ideas into compelling, resonant writing with literary depth and rhythm. It more reliably handles writing that involves structural ambiguity, such as sustaining unrhymed iambic pentameter or free verse that flows naturally, combining respect for form with expressive clarity. These improved writing capabilities mean that ChatGPT is better at helping you with everyday tasks like drafting and editing reports, emails, memos, and more,” OpenAI said.

According to OpenAI:

• GPT-5 reduces hallucinations, improves follow-up interactions, and handles complex tasks with more nuance.
• Users can choose from four built-in personas — Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd — in a new “research preview” feature.

GPT, PhD. GPT-5 is like having a “subject matter expert that is in your pocket that is an expert across every domain,” according to OpenAI.

• CEO Sam Altman said GPT-5 is like talking to an expert, whereas GPT-3 was like talking to a high school student, while GPT-4 was like talking to a college student. (OpenAI said it is deprecating its older models.)
• GPT-5 is more grounded and less sycophantic than earlier models, according to OpenAI. Fewer emojis. Less fluff. More thoughtful responses.

Who can get it? Free users can try GPT-5 with limited capacity. Once maxed out, they will be switched to a lightweight “GPT-5 mini” version.

• Subscribers: Paying users can make GPT-5 their default model.
• Pro users: Get unlimited GPT-5 access and a higher-performance version called GPT-Pro.

However, Altman said OpenAI’s new flagship model still does not learn or improve on its own, which is a key component of what OpenAI considers true AGI (artificial general intelligence).
