A civil society group, the Concerned Citizens Network of Nigeria (CCNN), has called for a full investigation into the alleged expenditure of $5.5 million on foreign education by Farouk Ahmed, the head of Nigeria’s Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
At a press conference in Abuja, the group stated that Ahmed’s children attended the world’s most expensive schools, including Institut Le Rosey and Aiglon College in Switzerland, which cost up to $200,000 per child per year. CCNN questioned how Ahmed, a lifelong civil servant, could afford such luxury. They stated that this raised concerns about corruption, asset concealment, or the misuse of public funds.
They requested that anti-corruption agencies, such as the EFCC, ICPC, and the Code of Conduct Bureau, act swiftly to investigate the matter. The group also criticised Ahmed’s attempt to defend himself through newspaper ads, which they described as evasive. They warned that failure to investigate would damage public trust and the government’s anti-corruption fight.
