Heirs Energies Ltd. has partnered with the World Literacy Foundation (WLF) to launch a solar-powered literacy initiative in Rivers State.
The project, unveiled to mark World Literacy Day, will provide over 500 pupils at Central State Primary School, Omuohia-Igwuruta, and Umuebulu Primary School, Umuebulu, with Sun Books tablets preloaded with curriculum-based content. Solar panels will also be installed to power the devices and classrooms.
Teachers in both schools will receive training to integrate the digital tools into classroom instruction. The initiative is aimed at improving literacy levels in the host communities of Heirs Energies’ OML 17 operations.
Heirs Energies CEO, Osa Igiehon, stated that the project reflects the company’s commitment to community development. At the same time, WLF CEO Andrew Kay described it as a step toward bridging global literacy gaps.
