A non-governmental organisation, IA-Foundation, has enrolled 100 street children from the Mafoluku area of Oshodi, Lagos State, into schools as part of its Children’s Day outreach aimed at expanding access to education for vulnerable children in underserved communities.
The initiative was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the organisation’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Ibironke Adeagbo.
Speaking during the event, Adeagbo said the decision to take children off the streets was prompted by the growing need to address poverty and insecurity, which she linked to the widespread lack of education.
“We cannot afford to ignore these children. Leaving them on the streets only increases poverty and insecurity in the country,” she said.
Adeagbo called for greater collaboration between non-governmental organisations and the government, particularly in the drive to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, which advocates inclusive and equitable quality education for all.
She described the foundation’s outreach as “a call to action” and a reminder that every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and reach their full potential.
According to her, the 100 children were welcomed into a safe and nurturing environment, where they were inspired through motivational talks on the transformative power of education.
“These children, who have been left to navigate life on their own, were encouraged to dream beyond their present conditions,” she added.
Adeagbo reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty through education and urged stakeholders to increase investment in initiatives that keep children in school.
