Ikosi Nursery and Primary School, Kosofe, has won the 2025 Science and Islamic Quiz Competition organised by the Lagos chapter of the Muslim Teachers Association of Nigeria.
The school’s team, comprising Oshoare Sumayyah and Haruna Ibrahim, scored 64,096 points to beat 12 other schools in the final round.
Irepodun Primary School, Alapere, came second with 58,138 points, while Lambo Lasuwon Community Primary School, Ikorodu, took third place with 53,999 points.
The winner received a cash prize of N100,000, while the second and third-place schools were awarded N75,000 and N50,000, respectively.
Speaking at the event, Oladejo Abiola, president of the MUTAN Lagos chapter, highlighted the purpose of the competition, stating that it was designed to enhance the academic performance of Muslim pupils in primary schools.
“We give thanks to the Lord Almighty for the achievements so far. One of our programmes is to promote education in Lagos State in general, and we must give kudos to the founding fathers of our community,” he said.
He stressed the importance of encouraging young Muslims to seek beneficial knowledge beyond Quranic teachings, in line with the example of Prophet Muhammad.
“That old belief that Muslims do not need to go to school is wrong. They need to search for knowledge—any knowledge that is beneficial to humankind,” he stated.
Abiola urged other states to adopt similar competitions to engage and nurture young minds from an early age.
“Most of the Northerners can imitate this because what we teach the students when they are still young will grow with them,” he added.
