A prominent Islamic scholar and educationist, Sheikh Imam Hamzat Yusuf Abdulraheem Ariyibi, has died in Ilorin at the age of 65. The founder of Imam Hamzat College of Education and proprietor of the Imam Hamzat Group of Schools passed away shortly after Juma’at prayers on Friday, September 12.
Born in 1960 in Ilorin, Ariyibi began his Qur’anic education under Sheikh Abdulraheem Ariyibi before studying at the Arabic and Islamic Training Centre, Oke Agodi, between 1980 and 1988. He later trained at the Dawah Propagation Centre in Cairo, Egypt, and also obtained diplomas in business administration from Crown Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, and Interlinks Polytechnic, Ijebu-Ijesha.
He established the Imam Hamzat College of Health Technology and served as Visitor to both institutions in Ilorin. Over the years, he received several awards from academic and religious bodies, including the National Congress of Nigeria and student associations in Kwara State. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in line with Islamic rites.
