Intelsat, in partnership with MaxIQ Space, has announced the opening of applications for the fifth edition of the Intelsat Africa Space STEM Programme.
This initiative, targeting schools and educators in Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa, aims to empower the next generation of African innovators by providing cutting-edge STEM kits, specialised training, and resources focused on space science, sustainability, and the Internet of Things (Iot).
Since its launch in 2020, the programme has had a significant impact on STEM education across the continent.
The 2025 edition aims to further strengthen schools’ role in Africa’s educational transformation, equipping students and teachers with the tools and knowledge necessary for success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers.
This fully funded programme will not only provide schools with advanced educational kits but also offer professional development for educators through specialised workshops led by engineers and experts in space technology.
The Intelsat Africa Space STEM Programme goes beyond simply teaching technology—it is about fostering the growth of future engineers, scientists, and professionals who will shape Africa’s place in the global space economy.
The programme also supports national development goals in participating countries by promoting key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS), including quality education, innovation, and climate action.
Teachers will gain confidence through personalised training and access to an exclusive Learning Management System that supports lesson planning and provides mentorship.
Schools will also compete internationally for awards recognising their efforts in STEM education and sustainability.
The programme offers hands-on learning experiences for students, making STEM subjects, such as Earth observation, climate science, and IoT, more engaging and practical.
Participation in global challenges, such as World Space Week, will give students the opportunity to tackle real-world problems, including climate change and renewable energy.
Applications for the 2025 programme are now open to schools and teachers in Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, and South Africa.
