Katsina State has selected 2,166 pupils to enrol in newly established model schools offering free education, as part of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s Dan Amana Initiative.
The governor announced the programme’s launch at Nagogo Primary School, where orphans and vulnerable children also received school supplies. Six pupils from each of the state’s 361 wards were chosen through examinations to ensure fairness and transparency.
Radda explained that the model schools are designed to groom future leaders. “Our vision is to give these children quality education so that, in the next two or three decades, they will grow to contribute meaningfully to Katsina State,” he said.
He added that his administration has already sponsored indigent students to study medicine in Egypt and artificial intelligence in China, stressing that merit, not favouritism, guides such opportunities.
The initiative, according to officials, seeks to expand access to education for disadvantaged children, especially orphans, while strengthening the state’s educational legacy.
