Kogi Moves to Implement National Education Quality Policy Fully

The Kogi State Ministry of Education has begun engaging with key stakeholders to fully implement the revised National Education Quality Assurance Policy (NEQAP), which is aimed at improving the state’s standard of education.

The State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, declared the workshop open on Wednesday in Lokoja. He said the policy would help set clear school standards and ensure proper supervision for better learning outcomes.

“The issue of quality assurance is something we must take seriously, and Kogi is ready for full implementation of the NEQAP,” Jones said.

He called for honest and open discussions during the engagement, urging participants to identify possible policy implementation challenges so that solutions could be proffered.

Jones also stressed the need for strong collaboration between the State Ministry of Education and the Federal Education Quality Assurance Service (FEQAS) to achieve smooth and effective policy execution.

Also speaking, Dr Ezekiel Ajayi, Director Evaluator of FEQAS in Kogi State, said the revised policy would help build a world-class, functional education system in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He explained that the NEQAP document outlines key stages in quality assurance, including school monitoring, evaluation, and training teachers and school leaders to boost their skills.

“Any government serious about development must prioritise quality education,” Ajayi said. “If we faithfully follow the revised NEQAP, the standard of education will greatly improve.”

In their remarks, the ministry’s Acting Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Omolayo Onozare, and Director of Education Quality Assurance Service, Mrs. Ruth Opaluwa, said the workshop shows the state’s strong commitment to raising education standards.

“This platform will help us develop strategies to tackle the challenges of implementing the policy,” Onozare noted.

The workshop’s stakeholders included school proprietors, SUBEB, NECO, NGOs, ANCOPSS, ASUSS, and other education bodies.
