The Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, Mr Abdul Jimoh Muhammed, has called for greater collaboration between the Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute (NSPRI), other research institutions, and higher learning institutions to tackle food insecurity in Nigeria.
He called on Tuesday, March 19 2025, during his goodwill message at the 2025 In-House Review Meeting of NSPRI, held at the Institute’s headquarters in Ilorin.
According to the Rector, Nigeria’s food security can be enhanced by increasing agricultural production and reducing post-harvest losses through innovation and synergy among key stakeholders. He stressed that collaborative research and technological advancements can only achieve meaningful solutions.
Muhammed praised NSPRI’s efforts in addressing post-harvest challenges and commended the Institute’s role in developing technologies that reduce food wastage. He described NSPRI as a vital institution in the country’s food security drive.
This year’s review meeting, themed “Consulting E-Oracle for Sustainable Post-Harvest Management,” brought together key players in the agricultural research sector to discuss strategies for improving food storage, handling, and post-harvest processes.
The event focused on digital integration, particularly the ‘E-Oracle’ initiative, as a tool for improving post-harvest management, reducing waste, and ensuring better support for Nigerian farmers.
Experts at the event agreed that embracing digital innovation and collaborative research remains crucial in achieving long-term food sufficiency in Nigeria.
