The Kwara State Government has inaugurated a special committee to address growing concerns over student loitering and teachers arriving late to work. Speaking during the inauguration ceremony held at the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development headquarters in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, stated that the Committee was established to address issues related to students loitering during official school hours and teachers arriving late or being absent from duty.
Dr Olohungbebe noted that the initiative is in line with the revamped agenda of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s (CON) administration, adding that “The objectives of this Committee are to restore discipline and sanity in our schools. I urge you to carry out your duties with the fear of God.”
He further stated, “Avoid power tussles and work together as a team to eliminate student loitering and improve teacher punctuality and attendance. Do it with a sense of purpose and accountability before your Creator,” In separate remarks, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission, Mallam Tahueed Bello, and his counterpart at the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Sheu Adaramaja, pledged their full support to the Ministry in ensuring the Committee’s success.
They highlighted that the Committee’s efforts align with the Governor’s vision of “transforming the child of nobody into somebody” and urged members to support the administration’s educational policy goals. The inauguration was witnessed by top officials, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake; Permanent Member III of the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM); Chief (Mrs) Bosede Daniel; Permanent Members II, SUBEB, Hon. Dorcas Opeyemi; Permanent Members III, SUBEB, Hajia Habitat Muasu; and Directors from the Ministry, TESCOM and SUBEB.
