The Kwara State University has taken a bold step towards accelerating Kwara State’s efforts towards encouraging the use of cleaner energy by delivering the first batch of petrol cars converted to electric vehicles to the State Government officials.
The two EV automobiles were officially presented on August 14, 2025, to the Ministry of Business, Innovation, and Technology. Professor Kenneth Adeyemi, Chairman of KWASU Hold-co, handed them over on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh. He described the project as proof that local institutions can drive innovation, boost the economy, and protect the environment.
Adeyemi thanked Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for trusting the university with the task and announced that more vehicles will be delivered by September. He also said the university has prepared manuals and will train drivers to operate the cars. Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Damilola Yusuf Adelodun, praised KWASU for the successful execution, noting the partnership shows how academia can support the government’s development agenda.
