A disgruntled group vandalised a private secondary school to protest a principal for upholding the standards of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The teacher was said to have seized a candidate’s phone. Following the incident, the student’s mother made threats and later organised people to beat up the teacher.
Responding to the occurrence, the Ondo State Police Command arrested the student’s mother alongside her alleged accomplices. The student’s father, on the other hand, filed a counterclaim. The Ondo State Ministry of Education condemned the assault and described it as an insult to the education system. This incident is similar to a 2023 case where a parent attacked a teacher with a cane. The teacher slumped and died, causing the Delta Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools to seek justice.
