The Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University has recently won the national championship at the 2025 edition of the Chinese Bridge competition for university students in Nigeria.
The contest, which took place in Abuja and was supported by the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria and Huawei Technologies, ended on May 30, 2025. Five students from the university were honoured for their outstanding performance.
Ms Ukachukwu C. Nwanneka came first and was crowned national champion. She will represent Nigeria at the global finals in China. Another student, Ms Ugwuanyi C. Mabel, came second and will also travel to China as an observer. Ms Ibikunle A. Oluwatofunmi came third, while Ms Okoro C. Benedicta and Ms Gwacham E. Chinazaeipere received the Excellence Awards.
This is the tenth consecutive year that the Confucius Institute at NAU has won the national title since 2018. In the past, champions from the school have gone ahead to make Nigeria proud at the global level, winning top prizes and becoming African champions. The institute congratulated all the students, especially Ms Ukachukwu, and expressed hope that she will bring home the global title and make history.
