NBA Urges Government to Boost Funding for Legal Education in Nigeria

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Legal Education Committee has called for increased funding to enhance legal education in Nigeria, ensuring that the country produces highly skilled lawyers who are ready to contribute to national development.

This appeal was made during the inaugural Regional Townhall Workshop on Legal Education, held at Imo State University (IMSU) in Owerri, Imo State, on April 26, 2025.

NBA President Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, officially inaugurated the NBA-LEC under the leadership of Professor Damilola Sunday Olawuyi, SAN, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Afe Babalola University.

The committee aims to reform legal education through workshops, training, and conferences.

The town hall workshop series, which originated in the Southeast, drew over 300 participants, comprising legal scholars, law students, and university faculty members.

The event featured contributions from law faculties at four universities: Abia State University, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, IMSU, and Enugu State University of Science and Technology, on Nigeria’s legal education system.

The workshop participants unanimously agreed on the pressing need for reforms and greater investments in legal education to address the demands of modern-day legal practice.
