The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has just approved the Start Innovation Hub (SIH) as a skill Training centre in Akwa Ibom, Uyo State, making it one of the 16 in the state.
Prof. Idris Mohammed Bugaje, Executive Secretary of the NBTE, disclosed this information in the approval letter signed by Engr. S.M. Yusuf, the Director of Vocational, Technical, and Skills Development, addressed the SIH Chief Executive on Tuesday, Jun. 17, 2025, in Uyo. The letter stated that the company has been awarded approval as part of NBTE’s organisation and will focus on improving education with technical vocational skills.
“I am directed to inform you that the Executive Secretary has approved the centre to operate as a Skill Training Centre (STC) for the following trades: The following programmes have been approved: 1. Computer Hardware Repair & Maintenance 2. Social Media Communications”, he said.
Based on the new arrangement, the Sectoral Awarding Body will be responsible for the assessment of the trainees while the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) will issue certificates based on the recommendation of the Sectoral Awarding Body. The NBTE has consistently played a crucial role in safeguarding academic standards in Nigeria. It discovered 16 illegal polytechnics three years ago.
