The Permanent Secretary of the Cross River State Secondary Education Board, Mr Eyo Offiong, has declared that no head teacher or principal will henceforth be allowed to reject postings to any part of the state, including rural areas.
Offiong made this known at the weekend while receiving the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the 2025 Media Week Celebration Committee in his office.
He said the Board would no longer tolerate cases of teachers refusing transfers to schools they do not prefer. He also addressed reports of bribery scandals involving teachers on the government payroll, allegedly avoiding deployment to remote communities.
He said every teacher or head teacher in Cross River State was now receiving due attention and postings without the need to offer bribes to him or his officials.
He stressed that he did not encourage bribery in any form and always ensured that what was due to anyone was given without condoning illegality or favouritism. He said this was why no teacher or head teacher would dare reject a transfer to any school.
Offiong added that the Board is being repositioned to ensure fairness, transparency, and a more conducive working environment for all teaching staff.
In his remarks, NUJ Chairman Archibong Bassey commended Offiong’s leadership and reaffirmed the union’s commitment to highlighting issues affecting its members.
