NYSC DG Urges Corps Members to Embrace Katsina’s Culture, Avoid Politics

NYSC Director-General, Brig. Gen. Olakunle Nafiu

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has called on corps members posted to Katsina State to prioritise cultural integration and national values during their service year.

Nafiu, on a nationwide inspection tour of NYSC camps, spoke to the newly inducted corps members at the Katsina camp, encouraging them to embrace the state’s cultural heritage and respect its traditions.

While addressing the corps members, Nafiu reminded them of the privilege of serving their country through the NYSC, urging them to use the opportunity wisely.

He spoke on the importance of integrating into the local community, learning about the people of Katsina, and respecting their culture, values, and religion. He also advised the corps members to be vigilant and security-conscious, especially when travelling at night.

Nafiu further warned against political involvement during the service year and cautioned corps members against posting harmful content on social media.

He reminded them that, while they are free citizens, they have taken an oath under the NYSC scheme, which they are expected to honour.

At the event, the NYSC boss presented a special recognition to the first corps member to register at the Katsina camp, a male from Yobe State.

The Katsina State NYSC Coordinator, Ibrahim Saidu, also shared the impressive registration numbers, with a total of 1,136 corps members, including 720 males and 416 females.
