Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has introduced new rules for students seeking to extend their stay in the institution’s halls of residence.
In a statement, the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) stated that the directive applies only to students who had an official accommodation during the 2023/2024 academic session. Those without prior allocations are not eligible.
Male students were directed to Awolowo Hall and female students to Moremi Hall to confirm their names on the approved list. The DSA stressed that the list is final and only those included will benefit. The statement added that eligible students must pay ₦10,000 via Remita and present a university receipt to their hall management for confirmation before approval is granted.
The announcement has sparked debate among student leaders, who are calling for a review of the fee. The DSA said the measure was introduced to ensure fairness and effective management of facilities.
