The University of Ilorin has named His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Michael Odunayo Ajayi, the Elerinmo of Erinmo-Ijesa, as a Distinguished Ambassador. The investiture was part of the university’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, which also recognised 50 accomplished alumni for their contributions to society.
Oba Ajayi, an alumnus of UNILORIN, was honoured for his strides in education, peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), praised the monarch’s contributions, describing him as a strong promoter of the university’s values.
Also honoured at the ceremony were notable personalities, including JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede; Dr. Sarah Omotunde Alade; Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV; Chief Rafiu Balogun SAN; and Prof. Mahfouz Adedimeji. In total, 50 alumni received Ambassadorial recognition and 10 others were presented with an Award of Excellence.
Oba Elerinmo was accompanied by a large royal entourage, comprising prominent monarchs such as Oba Jimoh Adebowale Adesoye, Oba Ademola Makinde, and Oba Olayinka Isola, as well as other dignitaries from Osun, Ondo, and Kwara states. A Fellow of several prestigious institutions and Deputy President of the Yoruba Obas Forum, Oba Elerinmo’s presence underscored his growing national influence. His ambassadorial role solidifies his position as a bridge between tradition and academia, promoting unity, excellence, and leadership that extends beyond his kingdom.
