Ogoni University to Start Classes in October

The Federal University of Environmental Technology in Ogoni Land will begin academic activities in October 2025. This was revealed by the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Don Baridam, during an inspection of ongoing development projects at the institution.

Prof. Baridam expressed confidence in the university’s readiness to welcome its first set of students by the set date. The university is one of the significant demands made by the Ogoni people during town hall meetings with the Federal Government. These meetings were to promote peace and resolve longstanding problems in the Ogoni region. As part of their demands, the people are asking for the creation of an Ogoni State, the full completion of the East-West Road, and a proper clean-up of their polluted environment.

The Federal Government has connected these talks and demands to its plan to restart oil production in the Ogoni oil fields. To build trust and support the peace process, the government is currently reviewing several agreed projects that are meant to improve the lives of the people and show its commitment to lasting peace in the region.
