OOU Spokesman, Niyi Oduwole, Becomes NIPR Fellow

The Deputy Registrar and Head of the Corporate Affairs Division at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Mr Niyi Oduwole, has been honoured as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). The honour was in recognition of his outstanding contributions to public relations practice in Nigeria.

According to a press release, Oduwole was formally inducted on Thursday, May 22 2025, during the Annual General Meeting of NIPR, held at Ceedapeg Hotels, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as part of the 2025 Nigeria Public Relations Week (NPRW). The award was presented by the NIPR President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Dr Ike Neliaku, who also installed the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, as a Patron of the Institute at the same event.

Mr. Oduwole, a respected figure in Nigeria’s PR industry, joined NIPR in 1992 and became a full member in 2001. He is also a member of the International Public Relations Communication and Marketing Network, Canada; Public Relations Society of America; Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ); Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON); Association of Nigeria University Professional Administrators (ANUPA); and the Association of University Administrators (AUA), United Kingdom.

Oduwole has served in various roles within OOU and beyond, using his communication skills in crisis management, industrial relations, and strategy implementation to improve university-community ties and promote peace. Speaking at the event, Dr Neliaku said the new Fellows were carefully selected after a thorough screening by the Fellowship Advisory Committee. He congratulated Oduwole and the other inductees, saying their recognition was well-deserved.

In his response, Mr. Oduwole dedicated the award to his family, mentors, and colleagues, promising to continue promoting excellence in public relations. He also thanked the Ogun State NIPR Chapter for their support. He pledged to uphold professional ethics, mentor young practitioners, and make meaningful contributions to the growth of the PR profession in Nigeria.
