Despite the allocation of 1.77 billion for education in the Federal Capital Territory’s 2024 budget, more than 400 pupils at the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School Angwandodo in Gwagwalada, Abuja, continue to learn in overcrowded classrooms with no furniture, forcing them to sit on the bare floor.
The school, which lacks an administrative block for teachers, also suffers from severe infrastructure issues, including leaking roofs, broken floors, and inadequate toilet facilities. These conditions pose significant hygiene and safety risks for both students and staff.
According to the civic platform, the government’s promised funding has yet to result in tangible improvements in the community.
The FCT Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB) has acknowledged the problems and assured that efforts are underway to distribute resources to schools across the territory, with more interventions planned to address the growing demand for educational facilities.
