The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Kashere (FUK), Professor Umaru Pate, has praised the Federal Government for supporting students through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
Speaking at a press briefing in Kashere ahead of the school’s combined convocation ceremonies, he revealed that 8,266 students have received over ₦1 billion in loans. The money covers service charges and monthly upkeep. He described NELFUND as the most impactful student support initiative in the last 20 years. “No programme has touched the lives of students like this one,” Pate said.
He also announced that 6,870 students are graduating, with 91 earning first-class honours. Others include 1,899 with second class upper, 3,917 with second class lower, 960 with third class, and 3 with pass degrees. He noted that 70% of the graduates are male, and encouraged efforts to boost female enrolment. He expressed hope that more students would benefit from the loan scheme soon.
