Professor Flora Tobolayefa Oluwafemi has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, Delta State. Oluwafemi used to be the institution’s deputy vice-chancellor. Additionally, she was the head of a department at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Mr Abdullahi Bardi, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the University’s Governing Council, stated that Oluwafemi was carefully chosen after a series of competitive evaluations, public advertisements, and transparent interviews. Bardi assured the university management that the Vice-Chancellor would be more efficient in her new role, stating his confidence in her ability to lead the institution into greater relevance in Nigeria’s blue economy ambitions.
He expressed his appreciation for the collective effort of the presidency, the Ministry of Education, the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), and the National Assembly in making the appointment a success.
While the vote of confidence passed on her is transparent and well-deserved, the institution hopes to see more Infrastructure put in place. Nonetheless, students are hopeful for a change in the university’s method of handling academic activities.
