The National Security Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, is set to deliver the 9th Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona’s annual professorial lecture on May 10 to mark the 91st birthday of the revered monarch.
The lecture, themed “Corruption and National Security: Impacts and Consequences,” will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the Ogbagba Hall of the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona School of Governance Studies (NIPSS-OSKASOGS).
According to a release by the Deputy Registrar, Corporate Affairs Division, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Niyi Oluwole, the event marks a significant moment in the institution’s history.
Oba Adetona, in 2016, endowed the University with a half-billion Naira Professorial Chair in Governance.
This initiative, known as the Oba (Dr) Sikiru Kayode Adetona Professorial Chair in Governance, reflects the monarch’s dedication to good governance, education, and national development.
Since its inception, the annual lecture series has drawn prominent guests and experts from various sectors, aiming to address critical governance issues, share best practices, and offer solutions to societal challenges.
The monarch has been a major benefactor to the University, facilitating key development projects, including constructing the iconic Vice-Chancellor’s Lodge and significant road projects.
High-profile dignitaries will attend the lecture with Princess Adetoun Adetona-Daramola, Chairperson of the Oba (Dr.) S. K. Adetona, Professorial Chair in Governance, will deliver the opening address. Also present will be the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Toyin Ashiru, OON, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, who will make remarks in honour of the monarch.
The event also commemorates the announcement by President Bola Tinubu, during Oba Adetona’s 90th birthday celebrations, that the Oba (Dr) S.K. Adetona School of Governance Studies will now be managed by the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Africa’s leading institution for public policy and leadership development.
