The Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, in partnership with Plan International Nigeria, has organised the Annual Safe Schools Summit to mark the International Day to Protect Education from Attack.
The event, held on Thursday at Dankani Guest Palace Hotel, gathered education and security stakeholders to discuss practical strategies for improving school safety across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Prof. A. L. Ala, the Secretary of the Education Implementation Unit, Abdullahi Altine Durbawa, praised Plan International for its support in making the summit possible.
He also assured that Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto’s administration remains firmly committed to protecting education and ensuring schools are safe spaces where children can learn without fear.
The summit comes at a time of growing concerns over violence and insecurity in most parts of northern Nigeria, with repeated calls for stronger collaboration between the government, communities, and development partners to safeguard students and teachers.
