The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has flagged off the zonal stage of the National Campus Debate, bringing together students from universities and tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
Themed “Unity in Diversity: Defining National Identity in Nigeria’s Multicultural Society”, the debate aims to encourage dialogue among young Nigerians on national identity and cohesion.
The contests, running from September 23 to 25, follow state-level qualifiers and will produce finalists for the grand finale. Prizes include ₦50 million for the winner, ₦30 million for second place, and ₦20 million for third place.
Zonal events are being held in Lokoja (North Central), Kaduna (North West), Gombe (North East), Port Harcourt (South-South), Umuahia (South East), and Abeokuta (South West). Participating institutions range from federal and state universities to polytechnics, colleges of education, and specialised schools, including the Nigerian Law School and Colleges of Nursing.
NOA said the debate is designed as a “unifying platform” for students to sharpen their critical thinking, engage constructively on issues of diversity, and contribute to strengthening unity in Nigeria’s multicultural society.
The agency noted that the initiative aligns with its broader mandate to promote national integration and civic responsibility among young people.
