Students to Debate Role of AI and Social Media at Lagos Media Contest

Secondary school students in Lagos will compete in the 2025 New Media Conference (NMC) School Debate, which opens on Friday at Command Day Secondary School, Ikeja.

Organised by media entrepreneur Oluwatosin Ajibade, the debate will challenge students to examine the impact of technology and information on society.

This year’s quarter-final topic is “Social Media: A Tool for Social Good or a Catalyst for Misinformation.” The semi-final and final rounds will focus on artificial intelligence, exploring its role in shaping future careers and the balance between innovation and content regulation.

Isabella Adediji, founder of Yellow Tamarind Productions, will host the event. The panel of judges includes broadcaster Joseph Onaolapo and academic Dr Chike Mgbeadichie. The NMC School Debate forms part of a broader initiative to promote digital literacy and critical thinking among young Nigerians.
