President Bola Tinubu has approved N158 billion to strengthen Nigeria’s education sector, with a significant focus on technical and vocational training. Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad, announced the 42nd convocation and 50th anniversary of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
She explained that the funds would be used to empower about 650,000 young Nigerians with the technical, vocational, and digital skills needed for modern industries and the labour market. The initiative, she said, demonstrates the federal government’s commitment to enhancing opportunities for young people and improving the quality of education nationwide.
Professor Ahmad also noted that some universities are already benefiting from electricity supply through the Rural Electrification Agency, with UDUS among the beneficiaries. This, she said, will enhance learning environments and improve academic performance.
The move is expected to reduce unemployment, equip young people with practical skills, and prepare Nigeria’s workforce for global competitiveness.
