President Bola Tinubu has reaffirmed his commitment to educational development by directing the transformation of the former Nok University in Kachia, Kaduna State, into the Federal University of Applied Sciences.
This decision follows a Federal High Court ruling that led to the forfeiture of the institution’s assets to the Federal Government.
In a strategic move to bolster the university’s leadership, President Tinubu appointed Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
Other key appointments include Prof. Qurix Williams Barnabas as Vice Chancellor, Sanusi Gambo Adamu as Registrar, Ibrahim Dalhat as Bursar, and Prof. Daniel Abubakar as University Librarian.
To ensure the institution’s smooth commencement, Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State handed over a Certificate of Occupancy for 270 hectares of land to the Federal Ministry of Education.
He also pledged the state’s continued support in infrastructure development and collaboration with federal authorities.
The university is set to begin academic activities in September 2025, offering programs in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, applied sciences, and technology.
The Federal Government has allocated the 2025 budget to support the institution’s infrastructure and operational needs.
This aligns with the administration’s focus on expanding access to quality education and fostering innovation, particularly in the science and technology sectors.
The establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, is expected to make a significant contribution to the region’s human capital development and economic growth.
