A deadly accident at Sowo Village along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State has claimed four lives, including schoolchildren. The incident happened around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23.

The children were walking home from school when a car reportedly lost control and hit them by the roadside. The sad incident led to protests from angry villagers, who blocked the road and stopped traffic.

Spokesman for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the sad incident. He stated that the road was quickly cleared following joint efforts by TRACE, the police, and the Nigerian Army. “Normalcy has been restored, and traffic is now moving gradually,” he added. The tragic loss of innocent lives has once again raised concerns over reckless driving and the safety of schoolchildren in the country. Authorities have promised further investigation into the cause of the crash.
