Naziru Sulaiman, a 200-level Law student of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), has bagged ₦200,000 after finishing as second runner-up in the Mudi Sipikin Poetry Slam at the Kano International Poetry Festival (KAPFEST).
The three-day festival, which took place from September 11 to 13 in Kano, drew writers, journalists, artists, and culture enthusiasts from within and outside Nigeria. One of the highlights of the event was the poetry slam, where young poets showcased their creativity and stage presence.
Sulaiman’s impressive performance attracted commendation. It further underlines his growing reputation in Nigeria’s literary and debating circles. Organisers said the festival was not just about competition but also about celebrating literature, journalism, art, photography, and cultural heritage.
The win has been described as a significant boost for UDUS, demonstrating how Nigerian students continue to excel in both academics and creative pursuits.
