UNILAG Partners with Koonage Infotec to Digitise Internship Process

On Friday, May 2, 2025, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) received a significant technological boost as Koonage Infotec, a Nigerian IT firm, donated a server to the institution.

The donation, made through UNILAG’s Central Industrial Liaison and Placement Unit (CILPU), aims to support the development of a digital platform for managing student internships.

The server will host the UNILAG-INTERN application, designed to streamline the Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) by allowing students to apply for internships with verified companies, track their progress digitally, and enable supervisors to remotely monitor activities.

This initiative is part of a Memorandum of Agreement signed between UNILAG and Koonage Infotec in February 2025.

Professor Johnson Agunsoye, Director of CILPU, expressed optimism about the project’s potential to enhance the internship experience for students.

He noted that the trial version of the app is expected to launch in July 2025, pending approval from the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) for a paperless SIWES model.

The University hopes to advocate for its adoption in institutions nationwide upon successful rollout.

Representatives from Koonage Infotec, including Chairman Dr. Femi Adeleke and Executive Director Miss Adedolapo Oni, attended the handover ceremony at the Senate House.

According to Dr. Adeleke, the collaboration’s potential lies in improving internship coordination and enhancing student accessibility.
