The alumni of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) have promised to support the government in making the institution one of Nigeria’s top universities after its planned conversion to a University of Technology and Vocational Studies.
Speaking at the 2025 Annual General Meeting of the association in Lagos, National President Builder Yemi Osibajo said the change marks a historic moment that calls for unity and strategic collaboration among alumni, corporate partners, public institutions, and the wider society.
The National President stressed that the alumni body has the power to transform the institutions, influence policy, and drive national growth. Osibajo revealed grand plans to align YABATECH’s alumni network with that of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a benchmark for excellence. The association’s goal, he said, is to ensure the new university stands out in technical and vocational education, shaping the future of skills development in Nigeria.
