Zuriel Oduwole, Nigeria’s youngest nominee for the Nobel Peace Prize, called on the Nigerian private sector to increase its investment in education. Speaking during the Sterling Leadership Series held in Lagos, the 22-year-old education advocate and filmmaker emphasised the importance of meaningful collaboration between private institutions and youth-led initiatives to enhance access to quality education, particularly for girls.
Oduwole, who has earned global recognition for promoting gender equality and youth empowerment, told attendees that real change begins when businesses do not just watch from the sidelines but actively invest in building educational opportunities.
According to her, partnerships with young change-makers are crucial to achieving a lasting impact on the nation’s education system.
Present at the event were notable figures, including Tonye Cole, co-founder of Sahara Group, and Abubakar Suleiman, Managing Director of Sterling Bank.
Suleiman praised Zuriel’s boldness and passion, stating that her message served as a wake-up call for leaders to move beyond inspiration and take action. “Zuriel reminds us that age is no barrier to influence. Her story pushes us to translate ideas into action,” he said.
