30 FCT Students Get Scholarships from a Charity Foundation

To celebrate Children’s Day 2025, the Denam Charity Foundation has awarded full scholarships to 30 students of Government Day Secondary School, Dutse Alhaji, in Abuja.

The scholarship will last for two years and cover the full cost of school fees. It will also pay for the students’ West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees. The students chosen are in SS1 and SS2.

During the presentation, Linus Okorie, Chairman of Denham Group, stated that the gesture is part of the group’s way of giving back to society. He added that the students were picked after a screening process to check their academic performance.

“What has brought us here today is not the business side of Denham Group, but the work of our Charity Foundation,” he said. “As a successful company, we believe our surrounding community should share in that success.”

He stressed that the scholarship would cover two years of tuition and examination fees, including the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

“It gives me great pleasure to be here to present the scholarship to these 30 students who are here. This is an academic scholarship because the applicants were tested and met the marks we had stipulated. Therefore, they were selected. A better life is certainly possible for all of you, and that is what we are here to emphasise,” he told the students. “Paying school fees should no longer be a barrier to completing your education. You have no excuse now not to finish your secondary school.”

Okorie, a former executive of a global pharmaceutical company, encouraged the students to remain focused, assuring that the foundation would monitor their progress.

Each of you must believe in your dreams of a brighter future. It is up to you to work hard to make it happen. We are here to support you, and we will continue to monitor your progress to ensure you stay on track.

This programme cost us about N5 m, but it is not about the money. We are even prepared to spend more, and as the company grows, we can do more with our profits.
