SEC Promotes Financial Literacy as a Life Skill for Nigerian Youth

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has stressed the need to embed financial literacy as a life skill essential for young Nigerians to thrive in today’s economy.

Speaking in Abuja at the handover of the reviewed National Universities Commission (NUC) Curriculum on Securities and Investment Management, SEC Director-General, Dr Emomotimi Agama, said the initiative represents a strategic collaboration to build financial empowerment across educational levels.

Agama noted that financial literacy shapes how individuals earn, save, invest and participate in the financial system, adding that the SEC’s partnership with the NUC aims to integrate financial education from primary through tertiary institutions.

He described the move as an investment in human capital to drive inclusive and sustainable economic growth. Chairman of the Review Committee, Prof Uche Uwaleke, said the updated curriculum aligns Nigerian universities with global standards and equips students with the skills to thrive in modern capital markets.
