Over 9,000 students scored 50% or above in the 2025 National Common Entrance Examinations for admission into Federal Technical Colleges across Nigeria. The examinations, held on June 14 by NABTEB, recorded 24,074 candidates out of 29,260 registered. According to Dr Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, the NABTEB boss, 316 students scored 70% and above, while 14,685 students scored below 50%. Only eight students reached the top performance level. He noted a 287% increase in enrollment compared to 2024, with 16,206 male and 7,868 female candidates. This rise is linked to the federal government’s push for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
Students enrolled in trades such as engineering, construction, business, and others. The Minister of Education, represented by Mrs Muibat Olodo, said free tuition at Federal Technical Colleges is encouraging more participation. He announced the establishment of two new technical colleges in Enugu and Plateau, bringing the total to 34 by 2026, with additional colleges planned for the future.
