Education Minister Demands Fair Admissions Process

At the 2025 Tertiary Education Policy Meeting, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, called for Nigeria’s higher institutions to adopt fair and inclusive admission processes. She praised JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for ensuring honesty and transparency in the UTME system.

Professor Ahmad says that there is a need for higher institutions to admit students based on merit and fairness. She said this will help give all young Nigerians—especially those from poor backgrounds—a chance to succeed. She also urged institutions to update their admission policies and cut-off marks to match current realities.

According to her, a better and more just system will prepare Nigerian youths with the skills needed for the global economy. She reminded school heads that the country’s future depends on how well young people are trained. She urged them to use technology and data to improve admissions and support national development.
