The Vice-Chancellor of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University (AATU), Prof. Adesola Ajayi, has emphasised the importance of technical and applied science education in driving Nigeria’s development.
Speaking during convocation week, he noted that universities must produce graduates who are technically skilled, entrepreneurially prepared, and globally competitive. Of 183 graduands, 50 earned First Class Honours, reflecting the institution’s merit-based system.
Prof. Ajayi highlighted the University’s infrastructural achievements, including completed workshops, internal roads, a near-complete 200-bed hostel under a PPP arrangement and a staff office complex. Security measures include deploying Amotekun, installing a perimeter fence, and deploying trained personnel.
He said all students graduate with three certificates, a Bachelor’s degree, a Diploma in Entrepreneurship, and a Diploma in French. Research projects tackle real-world challenges such as detecting adulterated fuel, addressing domestic electrical faults, and developing urban solutions, while industry partnerships provide mentorship and internships.
The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the University’s commitment to staff development, transparent governance, and initiatives that equip graduates to contribute meaningfully to national development.
