The Biochemistry Alumni Association (Class of 2000) at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has commissioned a 10 KVA solar inverter power system for the department to tackle electricity challenges.
The project, tagged “Lighting the Path for Future Scholars,” was commissioned by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Eunice Omonzejie.
Omonzejie praised the alumni for giving back to their alma mater, describing the initiative as a memorable contribution and urging other alumni to emulate their example.
Alumni President, Mr Omofonmwam Isaac, explained that the project aimed to improve learning and research for both students and staff, while motivating other alumni sets to contribute to departmental development.
The association initially planned to upgrade laboratory equipment but diverted to solar energy after consultants identified unstable power as the main obstacle to teaching and research.
Acting Head of Biochemistry, Dr Israel Ebhohimen, said the installation immediately benefited 400-level students conducting research, reducing interruptions from power outages and eliminating reliance on costly generators.
Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Prof Hanson Iyawe, lauded the alumni’s contribution, noting that stable, green energy would enhance practical classes, laboratory work, and overall research productivity.
