AAU Embarks on Initiatives to Regain Lost Academic Glory

The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has rolled out several initiatives to boost and enhance academic activities, in an effort to regain the lost glory of the Edo State-owned University.

Sunday Olowo Samuel, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, disclosed this at a press conference with reporters in Benin City.

Samuel, represented by Mike Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar/Head of Information & Public Relations at the school, noted that the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government’s support has contributed significantly to the ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the institution.

According to him, beyond the faculties and departments sourcing alternative power supplies, the state government has announced plans to provide a 1.5-megawatt alternative power supply to support all sectors of our main campus.

“Additionally, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) will be installing a solar plant, a testament to our university’s prominence in the South-South region. Notably, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, is the sole beneficiary of this initiative in the region.

“Furthermore, we’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with a Chinese university, paving the way for technology transfer and exchange programmes.

“This partnership will undoubtedly enhance our academic and research capabilities, solidifying our position as a leading institution,” he said.

He, however, refuted the news circulating that some students had staged a protest to draw the attention of the school’s management to the plight of the lecturers.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, however, attributed the report to the work of some mischief-makers.

“I would like to address the recent attention our university has received. Unfortunately, some mischief-makers have been spreading false narratives to discredit our institution for their personal gain.

“These individuals, who were instrumental in bringing the Special Intervention Team (SIT) regime into the university, are back with their fabrications.

“One online platform has published false stories about AAU, including a recent report about an alleged protest and the shutting of our university’s gate”, he said.
