Students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, have rejected the management’s decision to increase tuition ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The protest follows reports that the new fees, particularly for freshers, were significantly raised without prior consultation.
In a statement signed by Students’ Union Government (SUG) leaders, President Salami Akeem, General Secretary Bakare Jamiu Abiodun, and Public Relations Officer Mosadoluwa Ajidaba, the union described the hike as “sudden and inconsiderate,” noting that it has caused panic among students, especially those who are self-sponsored.
The SUG stated that consultations were ongoing to press for a reduction and advised new students to suspend payments and registration until discussions with management produce results.
Meanwhile, the university’s Registrar, Olugbenga Arajulu, announced that the new academic session will begin on November 9, 2025, with registration and lectures to proceed in phases.
