Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, says it will increase admissions into its medical and health-related programmes following the release of a ₦4 billion Federal Government intervention for its medical complex.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed, announced this during the 2025 Sponsio Academica ceremony for medical students at the Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre, Zaria. He was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Raymond Bako.
Professor Ahmed said the expansion would enable the university to train more medical professionals to meet Nigeria’s healthcare demands. He explained that while ABU currently admits 180 students into its MBBS programme, it receives about 3,000 applications each year.
He added that the intervention fund would be used to improve infrastructure, teaching, and learning facilities within the medical complex.
“Ahmadu Bello University is known for its strong medical programmes, and this intervention will enable us to accommodate and train more students effectively,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor commended staff, parents, and guardians for their dedication and urged graduating students to uphold ABU’s values and professionalism as they begin their medical careers.
