At the Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka, excitement is building as the institution takes a decisive step toward transforming its academic landscape. The College recently hosted officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for a resource verification exercise — a key stage before it begins offering 27 degree programmes under the Federal Government’s Dual Mode Mandate.
For Acting Provost Dr Oluwatoyin Miller, the visit marked more than an administrative milestone — it represented years of quiet preparation and hope. “This approval opens the door for wider access to quality teacher education,” she said, standing before a team of academics led by NUC’s Director, Dr Esther Mmeka.
The NUC team inspected laboratories, workshops, and classrooms across five faculties — Science and Computing, Technology, Education, Business and Vocational Studies, and Arts and Social Sciences — to assess readiness.
With over 100 PhD holders and strong teaching capacity, the College believes it is ready to deliver university-level education while sustaining its technical training heritage.
“This is the dawn of a new era for teacher education in Nigeria,” Dr Miller said. “We are not just building classrooms; we are shaping the future of learning.”
