Israel Eshanekpe (General Akpodoro), former Niger Delta militant, honoured by the American Management University
Former Niger Delta militant and Mayor of Urhoboland, Israel Eshanekpe (General Akpodoro), has received an honorary doctorate from the American Management University (USA) in partnership with the Great Achievers Initiatives for Youth and Community Development.
The ceremony, held in Abuja, highlighted what organisers described as Akpodoro’s transformation since the 2008 amnesty programme.
The university said he was selected after years of evaluating his contributions to business, youth empowerment, community development and engagement with government. His work, it added, reflects leadership qualities worthy of the honour.
In its citation, the university commended him as a “bridge builder”, inspiring young Nigerians and challenging negative stereotypes.
Akpodoro dedicated the recognition to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd, led by High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), praising the firm’s role in stabilising the Niger Delta and strengthening national economic security.
He also acknowledged his Urhobo nation, associates and supporters, saying the honour would further motivate his philanthropic efforts. Akpodoro reaffirmed loyalty to the Nigerian state and credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for creating an enabling environment for progress.
