Architects and students across Nigeria have unveiled a national architectural design competition in honour of Anthony Okoye, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Architects and founder of Design Genre Limited, as he marks his 60th birthday.
The initiative is jointly organised by the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), the Ife Architecture Students’ Association (IFASA) of Obafemi Awolowo University, and Design Genre Limited. It aims to inspire sustainable, resilient and inclusive urban design while recognising Okoye’s contributions to architectural education and environmentally conscious practice.
The competition, themed “Reimagining the Urban Block of Nigerian Cities,” invites undergraduate and postgraduate architecture students to propose sustainable and replicable design solutions for urban areas in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Maiduguri, Makurdi, and Kano.
Participants must submit two A1 design panels and a project report of up to 1,500 words. Each team is required to include at least one student from the Urban and Regional Planning program. Registration is free, and entries must be submitted by November 30, ahead of regional and national jury sessions scheduled for December 2025.
Top national winners will receive cash prizes ranging from N250,000 to N650,000, along with certificates and opportunities for publication.
