The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku chapter, has called for the arrest of a whistleblower, Raphael Ufua, who alleged certificate racketeering in the institution.
ASUP chairman, Michael Ohana, made the call on Tuesday, October 21, accusing Ufua of tarnishing the institution’s image and worsening lecturers’ working conditions. He announced a two-week strike, blaming the state government for failing to resolve the crisis between the Governing Council and the management despite several interventions.
Ohana said the whistleblower’s allegations that certificates were being issued to non-students had caused reputational damage and triggered public backlash.
He recalled that the Governing Council suspended the Registrar in February 2025 and later the Rector in July over unverified allegations. The union, he said, had now suspended its services for 14 days, urging the government to act on existing investigative reports instead of forming new committees.
ASUP also condemned police harassment of staff and demanded an end to the summoning of Heads of Departments over alleged forged results.
