Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, has continued to receive national recognition for his sweeping reforms in the education sector, including his recent conferment as Education Ambassador of the Year by Independent Newspapers Limited.
Since assuming office in 2023, Governor Kefas has prioritised education, declaring a state of emergency in the sector and introducing free and compulsory schooling in all public institutions across the state. The policy aims to reduce the number of out-of-school children and improve literacy levels.
His administration has also paid WAEC and NECO fees for students, distributed learning materials, and constructed and renovated schools with perimeter fencing to enhance safety. Pupils now receive uniforms, shoes, notebooks, maths sets and iPads in secondary schools.
Governor Kefas further approved 50% tuition subsidies for students in tertiary institutions and introduced scholarships at basic and post-basic levels.
His aides, Amb. Chilean Peace Jonathan and Hon. Emmanuel Bello described Kefas as a visionary reformer driven by passion, noting that his initiatives have revived public confidence in education and positioned Taraba as a model for inclusive learning.
